126 companies granted permission for mineral extraction



Kathmandu, April 2

The Department of Mines and Geology has granted permission to 126 companies for extraction of different minerals.

According to the Department, the permission was granted to such number of companies for mineral extraction in the eight months of the current fiscal year 2017/18.

Of the permitted mines, 49 are for limestone, four for quartz, three for red mud, three for marble, two for iron, among others.

Chief of Division of Mineral Resources, Ram Prasad Ghimire, said that the highest number of applications was filed for limestone mining.

The Department has cancelled the license of five companies as they failed to carry out mineral exploration on time.
