In order to prevent and control the spread of coronavirus, Nepal government has enforced nationwide lockdown since March 24 permitting only essential vehicles and those with permits to ply in the roads.
However, during the lockdown unauthorized vehicles have been seen plying in the road which are taken under control after police checking every vehicle in different places of Kathmandu Valley to make sure that they are allowed to operate or not.
As shared by the Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, 18,281 two-wheelers and four-wheelers violating the lockdown have been impounded until day 39 of the lockdown. Out of which, 62 vehicles are yet to be handed over to the respective owners, said the division.
There have been 175 road accidents in the Kathmandu Valley despite the lockdown. Eight people have been killed and seven others seriously injured. 118 people sustained minor injuries in the incident.
