200 artists showcasing creations at Kathmandu Art Fair

The Kathmandu Art Fair kicked off at National Theatre, Jamal, Saturday.

The fair organized by the Forum of Fine Arts would last 10 days.

Creation of some 200 artists on different genre as handicrafts, painting, sculpture and photography would be showcased in the fair organized in a bid to promote Nepali art and culture in the national and international levels.

On the occasion, Defense Minister Ishwor Pokhrel, said Nepali art has popularized Nepali across the globe, so conservation of arts was imperative. “Art is the most effective medium of expression,” he observed, adding that it helps bring change in society.

Chief of the Culture Department of the CPN-UML, Khagendra Rai, however, worried over the protracted political instability that has shadowed the culture.

Similarly, Chief of the Handicraft Department of Nepal Academy, Sushma Rajbhandari, expressed belief that the fair would help amplify the importance of Nepali fine arts.
