34 tonnes of solid waste managed in weekly clean-up



Kathmandu, April 7

Thirty-four metric tonnes of solid waste was collected and managed from various rivers and the ring road in Kathmandu valley, as part of the weekly cleaning drive today.

The Bagmati Mega Cleaning Campaign reached its 256th week today, and eight metric tons of waste was managed from the river banks in Thapathali bridge area. Around 550 volunteers including members of the High-powered Bagmati civilization integrated development committee, Nepali Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and other social organizations took part in the cleaning initiative.

The Bagmati clean-up campaign that began four years ago has led to other similar initiatives in 45 major cities and hubs of the country, including the major rivers and the ring road in the capital.

Likewise, the cleaning of the same river above Guheswari reached 217th week today. One metric tonne of solid waste was collected after cleaning the river area below Hanuman Batika in ward no. 5 of Gokarneswar municipality.

The 211th week of cleaning of the Rudramati River saw an awareness-oriented cleaning initiative in the premises of the Gorakhnath temple in Sano Gaucharan. The initiative began from Ratopul and reached the temple premises via Gyaneshwar. Lawmaker Gagan Thapa had also joined the cleanup campaign today.

Approximately, eighteen metric tons of garbage were extracted from Rudramati to Chabahil Chowk as part of the Ring Road Clean-up Campaign that reached the 52nd week.

Two metric tonnes of waste was collected from Syuchatar to Kalanki Chowk under the Bafal Section of the Ring Road Clean-up Campaign that reached the 34th week today.
