9,000 security forces mobilized in capital to implement lockdown

The government has mobilized 9,000 security personnel to implement lockdown in the Kathmandu Valley.

As shared by DIG Bishwo Raj Pokharel, chief of Metropolitan Police Office, Kathmandu, the lockdown has been implemented fully in the capital.

“The lockdown has been fully implemented so far,” said DIG Pokharel, adding, “Some people being deprived of information have come out of their houses. We have returned them home after briefing them of the lockdown.”

According to DIG Pokharel, no one has been arrested for violating the lockdown in the Valley so far. He further said that in case of emergencies, they can come out of their houses in coordination with the nearby police station.

“In case of emergencies such as if a member of a family is taken ill, they can inform the police or dial at 100. We will rescue them in no time,” said Pokharel.

The major cities including the Kathmandu Valley are wearing a deserted look due to lockdown since early Tuesday.

A few number of vehicles belonging to press, ambulances and those ferrying essential commodities are seen plying the roads.

The Nepal government has enforced a nation-wide lockdown to combat the COVID-19 after a 19-year-old girl tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday in Nepal.

A meeting of COVID-19 Prevention and Control Coordination Committee led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense held on Monday decided to implement eight measures during the lockdown. The decisions will remain effective from 6 am on Tuesday till 6 am on March 31.
