MOHP signs agreement to procure 100,000 RDT kits

30 April 2020, Kathmandu

The Ministry of Health and Population has signed an agreement to procure additional COVID-19 Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) kits.

An agreement was  signed on Wednesday with a private company to purchase 100,000 kits by the department of Health Services under the Ministry.

It is said that the new kits can detect both Igm and Igg.

Immunoglobulin detection tests are based on the qualitative detection of IgM and IgG that are specifically generated by the body in response to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Earlier, the government had purchased 75,000 test kits from China at an inflated rate.

The deal to purchase the kits has been reached when questions have been raised over the accuracy of such kits.

India has already banned the use of rapid testing kits procured from China due to their poor quality.
