CFPA distributes food packages to COVID affected needy people

11 June 2021, Kathmandu

A Chinese NGO working in Nepal, China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA), has distributed food packages to the needy people in Nepal on Thursday.

CFPA, in coordination with its local partner Safa Sunaulo Nepal (SSN) launched the Emergency Community Food Pack Distribution Program in Gokarneshwor Municipality, Narayantar, in Kathmandu. The distribution was held at the Shree Khagendra Secondary School.

Under the program, a total of 427 children’s’ families of different 4 schools, who were worst-hit due to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown, were benefitted. The families were provided with groceries, including rice, oil and other essential cooking items.

Gokarneshwor lies in the Kathmandu Valley, a densely populated region of the country, where thousands of low-income people reside.

According to CFPA, the main objective of this program is to support marginal and low economical background families, daily wage workers, labors and public school children families.

On the occasion, Mayor of Gokarneshwor Municipality Santosh Chalise along with the beneficiaries extended thanks for helping them in this difficult circumstance.

Chalise remarked, “Thanks to CFPA Nepal office which has always stood with Nepal at challenging times, from earthquake/flood to this pandemic.”

The country director Zou Zhiqiang from the CFPA Nepal Office said, “This program has been carried out as a prompt response of the second wave of Covid-19 in Nepal. CFPA is planning to support more than hundred thousand low- income people in Bagmati Province and Province No. 2.”

In 2020, when Nepal was dealing with the first wave of the pandemic, CFPA Nepal had also carried out several programs including the food package distribution program to help the low-income people of the country.

According to CFPA, since China has been successful in dealing with the pandemic, the experiences that the country had while containing the virus spread can be momentous to the rest of the world.

“CFPA, exploiting these valuable experiences, has come up with several programs to help Nepal fight the second wave of the deadly pandemic,” it stated.

CFPA, a leading humanitarian organization in china, has been conducting its philanthropic activities in Nepal since 2015. The organization is the first active Chinese INGO operating in Nepal for six years.
