Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Bidhya Sundar Shakya has drawn the attention of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba stating that daily waste management in the valley hit a snag.

According to Shakya, Prime Minister Deuba assured to create an environment for proper waste management in the valley at the earliest. Mayor Shakya, Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi Shrestha and other people’s representatives reached Baluwatar Monday to meet PM Deuba.

Mayor Shakya said he requested the PM to expedite construction of a road to Sisdol in Nuwakot, where waste of the valley is dumped. He added the metropolis would bear the cost of road construction.

“We urged the PM to take the initiative to build a road to Sisdol to transport garbage collected in the valley,” he said. “Right then and there, the PM telephoned the director general of the Road Department and instructed him to promptly start the construction of road,” said Mayor Shakya.

Shakya also drew the attention of the PM to help create a conducive environment for speedy construction of the landfill site at Bancharedanda. He briefed the PM that the landfill site at Bancharedanda was yet to be constructed and the road linking the site was also not completed, which was posing challenges for waste management in the valley.

Meanwhile, a symbolic demonstration was held outside the office of Kathmandu Metropolitan City in Sundhara by throwing garbage at the gate of the metropolis.
