The fourth Lumbini peace marathon is going to be organised on March 1 on the occasion of Fagu Purnima with an objective of preserving and promoting Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, and heritage.
Lumbini Peace Marathon Adventure Sports Nepal is organing the marathon. The organizer said that the marathon would play a significant role in developing and promoting the Lumbini area as the main religious site of Buddhists of the world.
Developing and promoting sports activities in the country is also the objective of the marathon.
The marathon would be held in three categories– 42-kilometer full marathon, 21-km half marathon, and five-km race.
Race Director of the marathon, marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar claimed that the peace marathon would help attract more tourists in Lumbini area.
The organizer expects participation of some 250 runners from different countries including Nepal, India, Australia, and China in the peace marathon.
