Diabetes Nepal, an organisation creating awareness against diabetes, has conferred the Lifetime Diabetes Award on Dr Mrigendra Raj Pandey, who is involved in study and research into the health sector since long.
Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun handed the award to and honoured Dr Pandey by offering him a shawl, amidst a programme here today.
On the occasion, Dr Pandey said that diabetes was becoming a major problem due to the increasing urbanisation and luxurious lifestyle, while emphasising the need of a balanced diet and adopting healthy lifestyle.
He stated that although diabetes damaged all the organs, heart, kidney and bone were the most vulnerable ones, hence the need for conducting sensitisation campaign from the local level itself for eradicating diabetes.
President of Diabetes Nepal, Roshan Krishna Nyachhaun on the occasion shared that there were approximately 1 million diabetics in the country. He suggested people to carry out physical activities, do regular exercise and take fixed calories of diet.
Diabetes Nepal was established in 2010 and it has been conducting awareness programmes and interaction among the physicians and the general public.
