Kathmandu, Feb 26

Tharu people have demanded guarantee of the proportional representation of their community at the central and province governments.

Speaking at a press meet here Sunday, politicians from the ethnic Tharu community sought their representation in the central and province governments in view of their population.

Their concern was that the issues of Tharus were always neglected by the State despite their sacrifices to bringing revolutionary political transformation in the country. CPN (UML)’s central leader Bhagawati Chaudhary demanded proportional seats to Tharu lawmakers at both governments.

Tharu Struggle Committee leader Dr Surendra Kumar Chaudhary was of the opinion that contribution and sacrifices of Tharu people to Nepal’s 70-year-long political history must be well recognised.
