Police has arrested six people belonging to a gang involved in the transaction of counterfeit Nepali currency notes.
They were held in course of carrying out investigation after fake Rs 500 denomination counterfeit currency notes were found in the possession of two people who had come to buy medicines at the Karki Pharmacy at local Balkhu, police said.
Diraj Bahadur Srinet Thakuri of Sharsha Municipality-9, Dhanusha district and Nigam Rai of Khawa-9, Bhojpur district had given Rs 500 note after buying medicines from the drug store on February 24. The medicine shopkeeper informed the police after suspecting the note the two men gave him.
A police team from the Metropolitan Police Circle, Kalimati which reached the drug store immediately after getting the information took Thakuri and Rai under control and found two more Rs 500 denomination counterfeit from them while carrying out a body search.
Upon interrogation by police, Thakuri and Rai said that they had taken the bank notes from Manoj KC of Godavari Municipality-4, Lalitpur who has been running the MS Workshop at Talsikhel of Lalitpur. Police arrested KC from his workshop on February 25. Police found one Rs 500 denomination counterfeit note in his possession while carrying out a body search.
Upon interrogation, KC divulged that he had taken the counterfeit note from Bhesh Kumar Thapa Magar of Timla, Solukhumbu district who currently lives in Kapan of Kathmandu. Police also arrested Magar and confiscated 21 units of Rs 500 denomination counterfeit notes from him.
Magar told police that he had taken the notes from Nema Tamang of Nagdaha, Ramechhap district who is currently living in Gothatar, Lalitpur. Tamang was also taken under control and confiscated one thousand rupees denomination counterfeit bank note from him.
Tamang said that he has also given the counterfeit note to one Ashish Majhi. Police arrested Majhi and confiscated a Rs 500 denomination fake note from him.
Police said upon investigation they found that Tamang had brought the counterfeit notes from Birgunj. Cases have been filed at the Kathmandu District Court against all those arrested on the charge of transacting in fake currency note.
