Twenty-four accused of the Tikapur carnage, including Reshamlal Chaudhary, have sat on strike inside the District Prison Kailali, putting forth various demands. Chaudhary is a member-elect to the House of Representatives from Kailali -1.
According to District Police Office, Kailali’s Spokesperson Sagar Bohara, their demands are that Chaudhary should be awarded the election victory certificate and allowed to take oath as the parliament member, among others.
Chaudhary had been reportedly in India since the Tikapur violence occurred in August 2015 which ended in the tragic deaths of seven police personnel including Senior Superintendent of Nepal Police, Laxman Neupane, and a baby boy.
He was the candidate for the federal election from the Kailali -1 and won the election. He, on February 26, surrendered before the Kailali Police and has been in custody for further investigations into the case.
