More climbers scale Mt Everest, Mt Lhotse



KATHMANDU: Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse recorded successful summits this morning as the world climbers have continued their final summit pushes on different mountains, according to the expedition organizers.

Lakpa Rita Sherpa of Alpine Ascents International shared that at least 10 foreigners along with nine Sherpa climbers successfully climbed Mt Everest this morning. All climbers have descended to South Col after making it to the roof of the world, Sherpa shared.

According to Jiban Ghimire, Managing Director at Shangri-La Nepal Treks, team leader of SNT Everest Expedition Ben Jones, Eric Murphy, Ian Swift, Luke Timmerman, Brian Cheripko, Vaycheslav J Tokarev, and Geneva Keaton from US, Jason Partly (Canada), Bogumaila Raulim (Poland) and Jose L Fernandez (Canada) scaled Mt Everest.

“Other Sherpa climbers who made it to the summit point include Jangbu Sherpa, Fura Kancha Sherpa, Karma Sarki Sherpa, Ang Pasang Sherpa, Ang Norbu Sherpa, Nima Tenzing Sherpa, Raj Kumar Thapa Magar, Thukten Dorjee Sherpa and Kami Temba Sherpa,” Ghimire, who locally manages Alpine Ascents International expeditions, added. “The climbers made 100 percent success after they waited for a fair weather window on the world’s highest peak,” he said.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Adventure Pvt Ltd shared that Doma Sherpa Pinasa has become the first Sherpa female journalist to stand atop the roof of the world. “The journalist along with Changba Sherpa and Pasang Sherpa climbed Mt Everest at around 5:00 am,” Sherpa said.

According to him, Byambasuren Jagdal from Mongolia and He Changjuan from China along with Ngima Thenduk Sherpa and Mingma Dorchi Sherpa scaled Mt Lhotse, the world’s fourth highest peak this morning. “At least 27 expedition members from the Pioneer Adventure made it to the top of Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse this season,” he said.

Ang Jangbu Sherpa, Managing Director at Beyul Adventure shared that at least five expedition members and eight climbing Sherpas successfully scaled Mt Everest this morning. Richard John Beek (South Africa), Mario Cantin (Canada), Gina Marie Rzucidlo and Craig Alan John from US, and Johann Lucian Shivantha Peries from Sri Lanka climbed Mt Everest as they were part of an expedition run by International Mountain Guides, Sherpa said, adding that Phinjo Sherpa, Mingma Dorje Sherpa, Ang Karma Sherpa, Mingma Sherpa, Thunang Lhomi, Jambale Sherpa, Kami Sherpa and Pemba Gyalzen Sherpa along with the expedition members also made it to the summit point.

American climber Prancois Godcharles along with Phunuru Sherpa, Chhewang Lendu Sherpa and Ngima Nuru Sherpa of IMG expedition stood atop Mt Lhotse this morning, according to Sherpa.

Meanwhile, a Sherpa climber from Kharikhola of Solukhumbu district climbed Mt Everest in four days. Pemba Sherpa who reached the Mt Everest base camp from Lukla on May 16, made it to the summit of Mt Everest on May 18. “This is my 10th summit on Mt Everest,” Pemba shared after returning to the base camp. According to him, he left for Camp II on May 16 from the base and reached South Col the next day. “After making summit on May 18, I descended to South Col the same day and rested at Camp II on May 19,” he shared, adding that he returned to the base camp on May 20.
