A feasibility study was carried out in Nawalparasi in connection with the operations of waterways in the Gandaki River.
The feasibility was undertaken as part of broader campaign to operate waterways in Nepal’s three big rivers – Koshi, Gandaki and Karnali.
A joint team comprising high-level officials of Nepal and India on Monday carried out feasibility study in the Narayani River along with Gandak barrage and spur number 12 of the Gandak area.

Madhav Belabse, Nepali team coordinator and joint-secretary at Water and Energy Commission secretariat, informed the area has high potentials for the operation of waterways.

The sea area is at total distance of 1,140 kms including 300 kms from here to reach to Ganga River of India and around 840 kms to reach to sea level from Ganga river.

A detailed feasibility study report will be prepared on the operation of waterways in the area once the team returns Kathmandu, said Tarka Raj Bhatta, under-secretary at Ministry of Commerce and Supplies.
