Kathmandu, April 20
Various speakers have laid emphasis on an action plan for checking cases of violence against women taking place in Kathmandu Valley.
Addressing a programme organized by Metropolitan Police Sector, New Bus Park, after a rally against human trafficking and sexual harassment here today, Chief of Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, Bishworaj Pokharel, said that support of general people was necessary for transformation of society as the contribution of police sector alone was not enough for it.
He said that collective support of all was essential to control VAW as such cases are increasing day by day.
Similarly, Mayor of Tokha municipality, Prakash Adhikari, said that cases of human trafficking and sexual abuse are found increased in Bus Park area, adding that the municipality would move ahead joining hands with police to stop it.
Likewise, Chairperson of Community Service Centre, Gongabu, Shailesh Karki, pointed out the need of support of all for the transformation of the society by minimizing the VAW while Sector Chief Pratap Poudel clarified that the Sector organised the rally with coordination of with Gongabu area-based various organisations working for the welfare of women to stop human trafficking and sex-related activities.
More than 1,000 people had participated in the rally.
