Army wins Jhapa Gold Cup title

Tribhuvan Army Club has won the 3rd edition of the Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament.

In the final held today at the Dom Lal Rajbansi stadium, the TAC got the better off hosts Jhapa-11 in sudden death by 8 goals to 7.

The game went to penalties after ending in a 1-1 draw in the regulation time as well as extra time.  Karna Limbu of Jhapa had opened the scoring in the 59th minute of the match but it was cancelled by Army’s Bharat Khawas in the 79th minute.

In the tie-breaker both the teams ended at 3-3 goals each, hence leading to the sudden death where 10 players each take a penalty. And then TAC won with the score at 8-7.

Along with the trophy, TAC also won a cash prize of Rs. 1.2 million while Jhapa-11 won Rs. 600,000. NC leader Krishna Prasad Sitoula and other guests gave away prizes and certificates to the winners.
