Awareness programmes stressed to end ill practices

Launching awareness along with effective implementation of the existing laws formulated to end ill practice like Chhaupadi has been suggested.

Submitting a report by a sub-committee of the Women and Social Welfare Committee under the Federal Parliament formed to carry out a field study regarding Chhaupadi, the sub-committee suggested that awareness programmes should be carried out besides participation of bodies concerned to demolish chhau huts to end the ill practice.

According to the report presented in today’s meeting of the Committee held at Singha Durbar, people of remote areas of different districts including Bajura still believe on shaman. It is necessary to launch awareness programme like street dramas against such ill practices.”

The seven-member panel formed under coordination of Committee member Ganesh Singh Thagunna carried out the field study from January 30 to February 4. The Committee endorsed the report with some amendments.

The Committee also decided to hold discussion with experts regarding the problems surfaced in the sector of women, children and senior citizens.
