Clash on transfer of municipality’s center; 19 injured

As many as 19 people sustained injuries when a clash ensued over an issue of the transfer of Brindaban municipality’s centre.

Police resorted to firing 21 rounds of tear gas shells to take the situation under control after the locals started vandalizing office of the municipality, protesting the transfer of the centre of the municipality at Bishrampur to another area, said DSP at District Police Office, Ram Kumar Dani.

Some 16 personnel of Nepal Police and Armed Police and three locals were injured in the clash. Police said that the clash broke out when the locals of Bishrampur entered into the hall and attempted to obstruct the meeting while a meeting of the executive was taking place to shift the office of the municipality to Chamanpur from Bishrampur.

Irate locals had also bounced on the office-bearers and women representatives in the meeting, shared Brindaban municipality Mayor Ramsnehi Devi Yadav.

Yadav further informed that more than 50 chairs, windowpanes, and municipality minute books were damaged in the violent incident.

Locals said that they would in no way allow the transfer of the centre while demanding the withdrawal of the decision.
