Community-Police Partnership

The “community-police partnership for peaceful and secure society” program was launched in Nepal in 2075 kartik 11 inaugurated by honorable home minister Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ comprising 7 provinces. The community-police partnership is significant step to maintain peace and stability in the society comprising local levels, community, social organizations and schools as its major partners.

The major assumption of this program is to increase immediate and direct involvement of the community for their active partnership and co-operation with the police to ensure peace and prosperity. Similarly, to prevent crime, creating awareness against social evils and chaos, to foster community support for the maintenance of security along with to make greater national partnership associating with different sections are the core requirements for a prosperous nation.

On the other hand, in order to make the community-police partnership program successful, 752 local levels, 1o,ooo social organizations, 77 community police district committee, 747 community police municipal committee, 5824 community police ward committee, 6182 community-police-tole community, 7.5 million students, 36,000 schools, some half million teachers, 75,000 police personnel and four million guardians would be directly involved.

In addition to this, community-police partnership program is running largely based on society centered and school centered perspective. The priorities within community based programs encompass basic security, control over the crime and violence against women, children and senior citizens, child marriage, dowry, chaupedi, bullying and ragging, human trafficking etc Similarly, issues such as road safety, conflict management, cyber security, control over drugs and alcoholic products, environment conservation etc. are included under this program. On the next hand, in co-ordination with community, programs such as door to door campaign, pamphlets, trainings, interaction, rally, cultural programs and other creative programs are being conducted.

Thus, it is of utmost important that each individual should develop feeling to fight against social evils and the traditional superstition. As whole, effective partnerships between law enforcement and community stakeholders are essential to public safety, and it is important that government agencies, community groups, nonprofit organizations, business entities, and citizens all embrace public safety as a shared responsibility.
