The construction of the North-South Highway that had remained halted along Tapethok- Olangchunghola section for the past 24 days due to obstructions from the people of Lelep of Phaktalung Rural Municipality-6 has resumed from today. An agreement reached among the locals, contractor and road project representatives after two day’s discussions led to the resumption of construction works.
As stated by Phaktalung Rural Municipality chair Saroj Abheng, through the discussions, the three parties reached to an agreement to undertake the project from near by human settlement. Earlier, there was a plan to undertake the project from above the right side of settlement. It is said that the project’s (original) course was changed at the request of locals as they were worried about its possible consequences on their settlement. But later, they revised their views and demanded for implementing it in line with per the original design.
The Elite Company has been awarded the contract of project. Its estimated cost is Rs 360 million. Now, works on just 32 kilometers are left to be done to connect Tapethok with Olangchunggola via a motrable road.
