COVID-19 kills 9,635, infects 411, 437 in SAARC region; 160,916 recover

Coronavirus death toll has jumped to 9,635 in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region as of Saturday morning. Over 411,435 have been infected.

According to the latest figures, 6,649 have died in India, 1,838 in Pakistan, 811 in Bangladesh, 309 in Afghanistan, and 11 each in Sri Lanka and Nepal, 7 in the Maldives, taking the total death toll to 9,636 in the SAARC member states. Similarly, among 411, 437 infected, 160, 916 have recovered from the deadly virus.


India is the worst-hit among SAARC member states. The death toll in India has reached 6,649 as of Saturday morning. India has reported a total of 236, 184 cases so far. Meanwhile, 113,233 patients have recovered after treatment.


Pakistan, the second worst-hit in the SAARC region, has witnessed 1,838 deaths so far, while 89, 249 have been infected. A total of 31, 198 have recovered.


The death toll in Bangladesh has climbed to 811 as of Saturday morning. The total number of infection cases has reached 30,391 in the country while 12,804 have recovered so far.


Afghanistan has reported 309 deaths and 18, 969 people have been infected as of Saturday morning. Likewise, 1,762 people have recovered after treatment.

Sri Lanka

The death toll in Sri Lanka has reached 11. The number of infection cases has reached 1,801 in the country while 858 have been recovered.


The death toll from Coronavirus in Nepal has reached 11 and 2,912 have been infected. Likewise, 333 have recovered from the deadly virus.


The death toll in the Maldives has reached 7. A total of 1,883 have been infected while 717 have recovered as of Saturday morning in the country.


Bhutan is the least affected country in the SAARC region. It has 48 infection cases. Currently 37 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals, of which 11 have returned home after treatment.
