Final rites of Ganesh Pandit performed at Pashupati Aryaghat

The final rites of communist leader and former parliamentarian Ganesh Pandit was performed at Pashupati Aryaghat today.

His sons Raj Kumar Pandit, Kishor Pandit and Dinesh Pandit lit the funeral pyre as per the Hindu tradition, according to Provincial Assembly member Keshav Pandey.

Pandit died at the age of 71 due to heart attack last Tuesday.

Present at the final rites of Pandit were NCP senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal and other communist leaders. Earlier, his mortal remains were kept at the NCP head office at Dhumbarahi for the people to pay their last tributes.

Former Prime Minister and NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ laid party’s flag on the dead body of Pandit in a gesture of highest tribute.

Similarly, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel, NCP standing committee members Asta Laxmi Shakya and Subash Nembang, Nepali Congress senior leader Ram Chandra Poudel and its central member Arjun Narshing KC among others also reached Dhumbarahi to offer their final tributes to the late leader.

Born to father Surya Bahadur Pandit and mother Maan Kumari Pandit at Shikharbeshi of Nuwakot on August 16, 1946, Pandit had played significant role in expanding the influence of the communist movement in Nuwakot district during the panchayat reign.

Pandit was elected Member of Parliament from Nuwakot constituency no-2 in 1991 election. He was also a member of the Pushpa Lal Foundation. He is survived by his spouse, two sons and three daughters.
