Former Speaker Mahara release from Dillibazar Jail

Former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been released from Dillibazar Jail on Monday.  Prior to this,  former Speaker Mahara was acquitted by the Kathmandu District Court on Monday.

Nepal Police former IGP Ramesh Chandra Thakuri and Armed Police Force former DIG Ranjan Koirala doing time at the jail among others bid farewell to Mahara.

A large number of leaders and cadres of the ruling Nepal Communist Party welcomed the former Speaker as he walked outside the jail.

Mahara was remanded to the jail after being accused of attempting to rape a female employee at Parliament Secretariat which he had been denying.

A rape case was filed at Kathmandu District Court against Mahara demanding a maximum of five years in jail for an attempt to rape and an additional two and a half years imprisonment for allegedly committing the crime by misusing power.

Mahara was arrested from his official residence in Baluwatar on October 6 after Kathmandu District Court issued an arrest warrant against him for allegedly raping the female employee.
