Home Ministry directs to seal off all entry points to Kathmandu Valley

The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the local bodies to strictly implement the lockdown.

The Home Ministry decided not to allow anybody to enter the Kathmandu Valley except for emergency cases during the lockdown.

The decision has been taken following the discussion with the representatives from the local bodies.

With the decision, the lockdown will be further stringent in the capital in the days ahead.

Meanwhile, security personnel have been deployed in five major entry points — Naghdhunga, Jagati, Muddkhu, Pharping, and Sankhu.

There have been criticisms that the number of Coronavirus is increasing in the Kathmandu Valley due to the negligence on the part of the government.

Meanwhile, twelve Coronavirus patients have been admitted to Patan Hospital.

A doctor at Patan Hospital seeking anonymity said the number of infection cases in the capital is increasing due to the negligence on the part of the government.

He stated that they entered the Kathmandu Valley from various districts including Saptari with the help of government passes during the lockdwon.

A meeting chaired by Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa on May 14 had decided to strictly block all the entry points into the Kathmandu Valley.

Chief District Officers of the Kathmandu Valley, chiefs and deputy chiefs of the local bodies adjoining the entry points, chiefs of security agencies among others were present during the meeting.

As many as 137,469 people entered the Kathmandu Valley in the last 57-day lockdown enforced from March 24.

According to Nepal Police, some 137,468 people came to Kathmandu Valley by 57,198 vehicles from five major entry points of the Valley.

Within the same period, 943 people came to capital on foot.

Likewise, some 236,600 people left the Kathmandu Valley in 60,434 vehicles. During the period, 18,053 people left the Kathmandu Valley on foot, The Rising Nepal reported.

The records of Nepal Police showed that on average 2,411 people entered the valley on a daily basis.
