Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said that the free press shall not be weakened. Inaugurating fiber-to-home service of the Nepal Telecom, Sauraha here today, he however said anarchism in the name of press cannot become the norm and standard of independence.
Making it clear that the government was not prejudiced towards the press, the CIT minister said domestic and international practices have been considered while formulating the new bill related to media. “Laws are not drafted in view of the ruling sides but considering democracy, and the constitution,” he said.
Nobody shall be arrested for writing news and the law shall come into play only if law and order is challenged to serve a wrong mission, Minister Banskota said. “If you write something, you need to take accountability for it, you need to prove it,” he said.
