India yet to respond to Nepal’s proposal for talks: Minister Gyawali

26 June 2020, Kathmandu

Minister of Foreign Affairs Pradeep Gyawali says despite sending three formal letters to India proposing for talks to settle the border disputes, India hasn’t responded yet.

Informing the Standing Committee members of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) during today’s meeting, Minister Gyawali said, “We sent three letters in November, December and January. It seems India has ignored to our proposal for talks.”

Sources said Minister Gyawali refuted news reports that China had encroached upon Nepal’s territory saying that there was no evidence encroachment. “This is all baseless,” the source quoted him as saying.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had on Thursday issued a statement refuting such claims.

Minister Gyawali was responding to queries coming from the Standing Committee members on border issues. They also suggested the government to initiate diplomatic talks to resolve the border issues once and for all.
