The government is to host an International Workshop on Dignified Menstruation along with the objective of enhancing public awareness to halt harmful practices related to menstruation.
The event will took place in Kathmandu from coming May 26 to 28 as shared by Minister for Women, Children and Elderly Citizens Parbat Gurung at the meeting on Monday of the House of Representatives, Women and Social Development Committee.
“The efforts we have made so far to stop harmful practices have some shortcomings, which we need to correct,” Gurung further said. On the occasion, the Committee directed the government to take severe steps to abolish the harmful practices related to Chhaupadi.
Similarly, as per the Committee Chair Nirudevi Pal, “There is no alternative to put an end to Chhaupadi, as it is a harmful practice”. Likewise, at the meeting, Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai shared that the home ministry has so far dismantled 920 menstruation or chhaupadi huts in Accham, one in Jajarkot, seven in Dang, 20 in Salyan, 17 in Dailekh and 300 in Sukhet accordingly.
Around 1,800 such sheds will be brought to ground in a few days, he added.
