KMC making preparation requiring all schools to fly national flag

21 March 2019, Kathmandu

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is making preparation requiring all schools in the metropolis to install the national flag and have their name plates written in the Devanagari script. The Nepali language is written in the Devanagari script.

KMC has stated that it is making this provision as many schools have been found using English names of late.

KMC spokesperson Ishwar Man Dangol said all schools – private and community – have to compulsorily fly the national flag at the school courtyard for promoting patriotic sentiments.

Likewise, KMC is implementing local curriculum from the coming school academic year. According to Chief of KMC Education Department, Sitaram Koirala, the local curriculum would be implemented at both the community and private schools within the metropolis. The curriculum includes Nepal Bhasa language, Sustainable Development, Environmental Education, Traffic Management and Kathmandu’s Old Language and Culture.

There are 91 public schools and around 643 institutional (private) schools in KMC.
