An English national daily being published by the Gorakhapatra Sansthan ‘The Rising Nepal has celebrated the 55th anniversary on Tuesday. The publication of national daily had commenced on Push 1, 2022 BS (December 16, 1965). As the first founding editor for the Daily, Barun Shamser Rana had served at the beginning.
Addressing to a function organised to commemorate the Daily’s completion of 54 years, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota stressed on that mass audience should not be influenced by yellow journalism. Minster Baskota also insisted that mainstream media organizations should provide
credible and fact-based information.
He also claimed that some media houses are following wrong practice that misleads the citizens making false accusations against the government. “Illusion is being created among the people as some media houses are reluctant to acknowledge the fact”- Minister Baskota further added.
He also urged that government does not fear at all the criticisms over its activities rather journalists, writers and columnists to criticize the government should be based on facts and not on fictitious basis. In addition to this, he expressed satisfaction that the publications of the Corporation, including the Gorakhapatra, were now improved and readable, suggesting for furthering the density of the news.
Minister Baskota also suggested to the Corporation’s journalists and employees to utilize their time with full dedication asking them to move ahead coordinating with the local government.
Similarly, Corporation executive chairperson Krishna Murari Bhandari said continuous efforts have been made toimproving the quality of news and making them readable. “May be Gorkhapatra at one time served as the mouthpiece of the government but now it is no longer so”-Bhandari added. It is not any party’s or government’s newspaper; it is now the people’s newspaper,” he asserted.
Like wise, Dr Taranath Sharma, senior journalist P Kharel, Jawahar Krishna Manandhar, Lokdeep Thapa, Bijaya Lal Shrestha, Aditya Man Shrestha, Devraj Dahal among other personalities were honoured on the occasion for making special contribution to the development of the’ The Rising Nepal.’
