Media Literacy Workshop organized by US Embassy Youth Council Nepal

Media literacy workshop has been organized by the US Embassy Youth Council Nepal on 29 June, 2019 Chandragadhi, Jhapa. The workshop was focused on connecting classrooms and newsrooms. The project had been divided into three phases as survey conducted in Mahendra Madhyamik Vidhyalaya and Sigma English School, Haldibari, Jhapa.

 In the survey, questions relating to media literacy particularly regarding fake news and disinformation, right to information and vital registrations have been asked. Based on the survey, the Council has selected 40 students and organized a workshop as the second phase. In the third phase, the Council will organize another workshop and graduation ceremony for the selected students.

 

The workshop was facilitated by Uma Kanta Khanal, senior journalist of BBC Nepali News and Deshsanchar and proved to be quite resourceful and engaging. The age of 12-16 years students were participated in the workshop who are believed to grab information and ideas quickly so that they can use them lifetime. From the workshop, students learnt something new such as to distinguish fake news and genuine news. The council has expected the participants sharing their learning with other students to make an impact.
