The meeting of the National Assembly, the upper house of the Federal Parliament, today passed a condolence proposal on the demise of Bharat Mohan Adhikari, who was elected to the Legislature Parliament three times from the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) through the first-past-the-post election system.
Adhikari was elected the member of the House of Representatives from Morang district in the elections in 2048, 2051 and 2056 BS. He was also the member of the reinstated House of Representatives in 2063 BS.
He was appointed the Finance Minister in 2051 and 2055 BS, Minister for Construction and Transport in 2053 BS and Deputy Prime Minister in 2061 and 2067 BS. The condolence proposal presented by National Assembly Chairperson Ganesh Prasad Timalsina was endorsed unanimously.
A member of the Constitution Suggestion Commission formed following the reinstatement of democracy in 1991, he was a relentless democracy fighter, read the condolence proposal. He passed away on March 2 while receiving treatment at HAMS hospital in the central capital. He was 83.
