Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) has extended his greetings belonging to Kirant community living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Udhauli festival today. Addressing in a message sent today, Dahal said that such a cultural festival will help to consolidate the national unity.
The ruling party chairperson Dahal also expressed his belief that these festivals would also contribute for protection and promotion of social and cultural integration as well as good will and tolerance.
The Udhauli festival is observed wishing for a good harvest by worshiping the soil and nature. People from the Rai, Limbu, Sunuwar and Yakhya ethnicities observe this festival.
Similarly, Yomari Poornima, a festival being observed by the the Newar community in Kathmandu is celebrating across the country today. This festival is believed to have started 400 years before. ‘Yomari’ also called ‘Yamari’ is a special delicacy made of rice flour and an inner content of sweet sunstances such as chaku.
The delicacy plays a very important role in Newaa community and a key part of the festival. The day is also observed as the Jyapu Day.
Also today, the hill people observe the Gaidu Pooja by worshipping their ancestors and the sacred cowshed. This full moon day is also called the Dhanya Poornima.
