The ruling Nepal Communist Party is holding its standing committee meeting on Friday this week.
Two chairmen of the party–KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal–held a meeting on Monday morning and decided to call the meeting, informs Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s press advisor Surya Thapa. Party’s general secretary Bishnu Paudel was also present during the meeting between the two leaders.
Earlier, the standing committee meeting had begun on June 24. However, it could not move ahead owing to the dispute between the two chairpersons after Dahal and a majority of standing committee leaders demanded Oli’s resignation.
Just a few weeks back, the two leaders solved the dispute by forming a task force to suggest solutions to the problem. The task force has suggested Oli remains the prime minister for his full term, and the party chair until the next convention scheduled for early 2021 whereas Dahal should be given additional rights to lead the party.
Both factions have agreed to the suggestion although senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal has some differences over the issue.
