Nepal confirms 259 cases, coronavirus tally hits 21,009

Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population on Tuesday said that the country’s coronavirus tally has reached 21,009 after 259 people tested positive for coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Tuesday afternoon, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam the cases were confirmed in 7,687 tests at laboratories across the country.

According to Dr. Gautam, tests conducted at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences have confirmed coronavirus in one person from Jhapa, two from Morang and nine from Sunsari and tests at Koshi Hospital Laboratory in Biratnagar confirmed the infection in three people from Jhapa, three from Sunsari and 10 people from Morang.

Similarly, one person from Dhanusha, two from Ilam, four from Jhapa and 10 from Morang were tested positive at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory in Biratnagar and tests held at Gajendra Narayani Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj confirmed the infection in one person from Siraha and seven from Saptari.

Tests conducted at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory in Janakpur confirmed the infection in 12 people from Dhanusha, 15 from Mahottari, one from Sarlahi and one from Siraha.

Likewise, tests at the National Public Health Laboratory in Kathmandu have confirmed the infection in one person from Bajhang, 11 from Bhaktapur, 38 from Kathmandu and 25 from Sarlahi.

Tests at the Insect Disease Research and Training Center in Hetauda have confirmed six people from Bara, one from Parsa and six from Rautahat to have contracted coronavirus.

Dr. Gautam said that tests at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, diagnosed a person from Dhanusha positive and test conducted at the TU Teaching Hospital, Maharajgunj, confirmed the infection in five people from Kathmandu, one from Morang, two from Nuwakot, one from Syangja, one from Tanahun and one from Rukum West.

One from Bhaktapur and one from Chitwan were found positive at the Nepal Police Hospital and coronavirus infection has been confirmed in one person from Kaski, two from Kathmandu, one from Lalitpur and one from Rupandehi in tests at Star Hospital.

Similarly, in a test conducted at Bidh Lab in Kathmandu, three people from Kathmandu were found positive and tests conducted at Nepal Korea Friendly Municipality Hospital Bhaktapur have confirmed the infection in one person from Bara and one person from Bhaktapur.

One person from Kaski, one from Lamjung, one from Parbat and three from Syangja were tested positive at the Provincial Tuberculosis Center, Pokhara and tests at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory in Rupandehi have confirmed the infection in five people from Gulmi and six from Rupandehi.

A total of 11 people from Banke and tow from Salyan were tested positive at Bheri Hospital, Nepalgunj and tests at Lumbini Provincial Hospital have confirmed the infection in two people from Kapilvastu, two from Rupandehi and one from Salyan.

Coronavirus infection has been confirmed in 11 people of Achham and 22 people of Kailali in tests conducted at Seti Provincial Hospital, he said.

A total of 65 have recovered across the country so far after 15,026 discharged from hospital and isolation centers in the past 24 hours, he shared.

A total of 875 people have returned home after recovery in Province 1; 3,184 in Province 2, 543 in Bagmati Province, 1,348 in Gandaki Province, 4,070 in Province 5; 1,730 in Karnali Province and 3,276 in Sudurpaschim Province so far, he added.

At present, 5,925 people are in isolation and 10,452 are in quarantines.

Nepal’s death toll stands at 58 after a new death reported, Spokesperson Dr. Gautam said.

According to Spokesperson Dr. Gautam, an elderly man who died at Koshi Hospital in Biratnagar has been diagnosed with coronavirus infection.

The 77-year-old man of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-5 was admitted to the isolation of the hospital at 11:30 am on Monday and died at around 3 pm, he said.
