Nepal confirms new 189 COVID-19 cases, tally reaches 1,401

One hundred and eighty nine people have tested positive to coronavirus infection on a single day today, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 1,401, the Ministry of Health and Population shared.

Among the infected persons, 1288 are male and 113 female. Spokesman of the Ministry Dr Bikash Devkota informed in a regular press conference organised by the Ministry today that 189 people were found infected with coronavirus in course of tests carried out at various laboratories. Among them, 185 are male and four female.

According to him, this number of cases is the highest number of cases so far. One hundred seventy persons had tested positive to COVID-19 on Friday. Among the new cases, 124 were identified from tests conducted at the National Public Health Laboratory Teku. Seven of the infected people are from Dhanusha and they are between 20 years to 44 years old.

A 45-year-old male from Jhapa and 77 people from Kapilbastu between 16 years to 60 years have also among those tested positive today. Likewise, Dr Devkota said, also testing positive to COVID-19 today include a 23-year-old woman of Lalitpur; four males between 25 years to 55 years from Mahottari; six males between 18 years to 45 years from Rautahat; 17 males between 16 years to 40 years from Sarlahi and 11 males between 17 years to 40 years from Siraha.

Also among the new cases are 29 people who tested positive in the test conducted at the Province Public Health Laboratory, Rupandehi. They are 29 persons between 15 years to 50 years from Yashodhara of Kapilbastu. Similarly, nine persons tested positive in the test conducted at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences Dharan.

They are between 18 to 28 years including a woman. Eight people tested positive in the test carried out at Rapti Academy of Health Science. Among them, three are males between 26 and 52 years from Bijayanagar, Kapilbastu, one is a 30-year-old male from Hapure of Dang, and four males between 27 and 38 years, and a 28-year-old woman from Bangalachuli, Dang. Three people have tested positive to coronavirus in the test carried out at Narayani Hospital Birgunj.

They are a 24-year-old man from Hardiya of Bara, a 18-year-old male and a 60-year-old woman from Pasauni of Parsa. Likewise, 14 persons have tested positive in the test carried out at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences. They are all males from Dailekh and between 17 to 50 years. In the test conducted at Koshi Hospital Biratnagar, two people tested positive to the coronavirus.

They are a 23-year-old male from Khandbari and a 22-year-old male of Panchkhapan, Sankhuwasabha. Dr Devkota said the number of districts where COVID-19 cases have been found has reached 53 with the detection of the cases in Sankhuwasabha today. He said 13 people were discharged today after recovery.

So far 219 people have returned home after recovery. The Ministry spokesman also said that so far polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests have been carried out on 66 thousand 72 persons and the rapid diagnostic test (RDT) has been done on 107 thousand 55 persons.

Test kits have been dispatched to various places to expand its coverage with the increase in the number of infected people. Dr Devkota added that 77 thousand 400 RDT and six thousand VTM have been dispatched today alone.

Accordingly, 4,200 RDT kits have been sent to State-1, twelve thousand 200 kits to State-2, twenty five thousand kits to State-5, 12 thousand kits to Karnali State and 24 thousand kits to Sudurpaschim State. Similarly, VTMs have been sent to various States – 1,000 units to State-1, two thousand units to State-5, one thousand units to Karnali State and 2,000 units to Sudurpaschim State.
