The Bhaktapur-based Manav Kalyan Society (Human Welfare Society), Bhaktapur, has rescued over 100 children and women from the streets in a year.
As the organisation says, the society searches for those helpless, incapacitated, orphans, children, aged people and those with mental disorders forced to come to the streets, and rescue, give shelter and feed them. According to society chair Sumitra Chaulagain, the society established a year ago aims to keep Bhaktapur free from street people. They were rescued from the district, Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kavre, and among them, 40 have already reunited with the families.
As the organisation claims, 15 youths have now become self-sufficient and five elderly people have passed away. Presently, the shelter home has 40 people including children, women, incapacitated and disabled.
