Physiotherapy is such a dynamic profession, which uses a range of treatment techniques to restore movement and function within the body. It is also known as Physical therapy which is health care profession that views human movement as central to the health and well-being of individuals. The aim of physiotherapy is to optimize someone’s range of movement and function whilst at the same time reducing pain and preventing recurrence.
Some people may require one or two treatments; others may require longer term rehabilitation. Physiotherapy is the assessment and treatment of physical health, and aims to correct disorders of the musculoskeletal system such as joint pain, postural problems, back and neck pain, sports injuries, ligament sprains, nerve injury, post-operative problems, muscle weakness and neurological health problems and so on.
Unhealthy food habits and lack of physical exercise are the major cause that is fostering for health problems today. Particularly, in Nepali society people used to be indifference towards their pain and went for treatment only when it reaches its high. Physio therapy is especially recommended for treating health hazards relating to muscular, bone and neurological problems. It is such a holistic approach to healthcare that uses natural healing mechanisms without the use of drugs or surgery and to restore the patient to optimum functional ability.
On the other hand, physio therapy comprises packages such as tens also called interferential therapy applying low level alternating currents through the tissues which produces a tingling sensation. These currents stimulate the tissues to decrease pain and swelling. It is not painful but is intended to give a strong sensory input to the body. Ultrasound which heals the paining part of body applying gel on it, hot pack and so far referred exercises for different parts. For it, the physiotherapist will assess the nature and actual site of the problem and relate it to the whole patient before making a diagnosis.
Some well-known and mostly practiced form of treatment undertaken and reviewed at every treatment session in physio therapy are included. Thus, physio therapy is a technique applied for the preservation, enhancement, or restoration of movement and physical function impaired or threatened by disability, injury, or disease that utilizes therapeutic exercise, physical modalities as massage and electrotherapy assistive devices, and patient education and training. Thus, one must avoid long stay in the same position, have balanced diet including green vegetables and fresh fruits and so far follow exercise on regular basis to be fit and healthy.
