Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s second kidney transplantation performed successfully by a team of doctors led by Dr Prem Raj Gyawali, a consultant urologist and kidney transplant surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Over a four-hour long procedure was performed on the Prime Minister who is receiving a kidney transplant. Oli was taken to the operation theatre at 10:00 am. “The surgery is finished and his kidney is working perfectly,” Dr Prem Raj Gyawali confirmed.
PM Oli is successful in urinating 500 ml after 15 minutes of the completion of the surgery, Dr Gyawali further shared. Two other doctors, including Dr Ananta Kumar, a senior transplant surgeon at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, who performed a transplant on Oli in 2007, were also in the team.
Samiksha Sangraula of Jhapa had donated one of her kidneys to PM Oli. PM Oli was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening for his second kidney transplant procedure. Doctors opted for re-transplantation after his health report turned out to be normal.
Prior to this, Oli had undergone his first kidney transplant in 2007 at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. Meanwhile, earlier on February 18, PM Oli had undergone coronary angiography of his heart at the Maharajgunj-based Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center.
As shared by the TUTH sources, the detail information about PM Oli’s health condition will be briefed at 4:30 PM.
