Possibility of salt mine in Jajarkot

Possibility of salt mine has been seen at Khara Stream of Barekot rural municipality-2 in Jajarkot district.

Provincial Assembly member from Jajarkot district, Ganesh Prasad Singh, said that 90 per cent amount of salt was found in one liter of water collected from the stream in course of a lab test of sodium chloride ( nacl). The test was conducted at Water Engineering and Training Centre, Kathmandu.

Director General of the Mines and Geology, Rajesh Khanal, said that good result was seen in course of lab test. He said, “A team will be sent to carry out a field study there within a few days. It is necessary to pay attention by the government to forward the project after carrying out detailed study of the possible salt mine.”

There is also iron mine at Barekot, said Singh. Singh said that they have requested the Department of Mines and Geology for feasibility study to this regard and iron mines, adding that the local government has already expressed commitment to provide support for the same.
