Publication of content in media a constitutional right-FNJ

Kathmandu, Feb 27, 2018

Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed its concern over the Supreme Court (SC)’s order on a case of contempt of court against Kantipur Daily Sunday.

Issuing a statement here today, FNJ General-Secretary  Ramesh Bista said that it is the constitutionally guaranteed right of the media whether or not to publish and air the content. “Nepal Constitution-2072 BS has guaranteed full press freedom which clarified the right and importance of mass communications”, reads the press release.

The Supreme Court (SC) had directed Kantipur Daily and Press Council to present and furnish clarification to the apex court within three days after the news was published in the Kantipur Daily on Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli on Sunday.

Keeping into consideration the court order and subsequent responses, the FNJ will come up with its further opinion following internal meeting and consultation with stakeholders, the release stated.
