President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said quality education is the need of the hour.
In her address today to a school building handover ceremony at Baglung municipality-12, the President asserted that it was the responsibility of the State to ensure quality education to the present generation who in future are expected to contribute to the causes of nation. The President was of the view that combined efforts were required to build an atmosphere for quality education. She further highlighted the need for initiations right from the local level to make schools competitive.
On the occasion, the President handed over the new school building of the Prithvi Hiranya Secondary School based at Amalachaur of Balewa to the school management committee.
The school building was commissioned by Chandra Prasad Dhakal, the chairman of the IME Group and vice-president (corporate) of Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry; and his younger brother Hemraj Dhakal as tribute to their late father, Hiranya Prasad Dhakal. The late Dhakal was a known philanthropist in Baglung. Also on the occasion, the President unveiled his statue in the school premises.
The 16-room school building offering disable-friendly infrastructures, a computer lab, science lab and e-library was constructed at the cost of 62.4 million. The school, the sole secondary school of Amalachaur, runs classes up to 12 classes and has presently 388 students, according to school principal Prem Chapagain.
