Reconstruction of quake damaged Maju Dega temple begins

Reconstruction of historic Maju Dega Temple in Basantapur dating back to 1690 B.S. destroyed in the earthquake of April, 2015 has started.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya inaugurated the commencement of the reconstruction amid a programme here today.

The contracting company named Prakritik Company led by Sanu Suwal and Pawan Joshi, who are associated with the KMC Hanuman Dhoka Durbar Conservation Committee, has been contracted to reconstruct the temple at a cost of approximately Rs 55 million. The temple was constructed in 1690 B.S. by Riddhi Laxmi, grandmother of the late King Bhupalendra Malla.

Addressing the event, Mayor Shakya said the reconstruction of religious structures damaged in the quake is taking place. Likewise, Deputy Mayor Hari Prabha Khadgi said initiations had already been taken to reconstruct historic Rani Pokhari destroyed in the quake.
