People with high blood pressure and diabetics have been suggested regular health checkups every three months as their optic nerve is relatively narrower than that of others.

Ophthalmologists from the Nepal Eye Hospital, Tripureshwor said if such people missed the regular checkup, they may face total vision loss in later life. They were speaking at a free eye-camp organised by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) today on the occasion of its 58th anniversary.

Dr Toshika Dahal said more people with complain of eye itching caused by dust pollution in the Kathmandu Valley are visiting the hospital these days. At current time, the hospital generally provides treatment to 500 patients every day.

Another eye doctor Dr Kalyan Dhungana highlighted the need of regular eye checkup in every six months for people above six years to minimise the risk.

The eye examination camp started at 9:00 am and concluded at 2:00 pm, where a total 132 people including RSS chair Shyamal Adhikari, general manager Opendra Sharma, RSS board member Dayaram Dahal, RSS staff and their families received the services.

RSS has already organised several programmes including special poetry symposium, and chess and quiz contest under the weeklong celebrations and main celebration is taking place tomorrow.
