The Supreme Court (SC) has paved way to scale the mountains to the visually impaired and people with physical disabilities.
A constitutional bench of Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli, Justices Dipak Raj Joshi, Om Prakash Mishra, Cholendra Shumsher JBR and Dipak Kumar Karki scrapped the rule restricting the visually impaired and people with physical disabilities from climbing the mountains, thereby paving the way for those who wish to go for mountaineering expedition.
Earlier, the court had issued an interim order to prevent the visually impaired and people with physical disabilities from climbing the mountains.
Mountaineering Regulations, 2059 has imposed a ban to the visually impaired and people with physical disabilities for mountaineering expedition.
However, advocate Madhav Chaulagain has lodged a writ petition at the SC against the provision arguing that the regulation was against the right to equality which was ensured as the fundamental right in the Constitution of Nepal.
