South Sudanese praise role of Nepali peacekeepers

Kathmandu, March 4, 2018

Residents of Yei town of South Sudan have commended the presence of peacekeepers from Nepal and Ethiopia under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

The Yei residents at an interaction with the UN peacekeepers recently have said they were feeling a sense of security and calmness due to the peacekeeping mission, according to UN Information Centre in Kathmandu.

On 25 January, UNMISS established a base in Yei to improve security in the once restive town, and to make it possible for peacekeepers to patrol villages. Nepal is the 6th largest contributor of peacekeepers to the United Nations, and more than 2,000 Nepalese military and police personnel are serving in South Sudan at present.
