Kathmandu, April 16
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara and the United Nations’ Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Miroslav Jenca held a meeting at the Speaker’s office at Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar today.
Discussions were held on the occasion of Nepal’s efforts at achieving the sustainable development goals and the role played by the United Nations.
In the meeting, Speaker Mahara stated that the constitution implementation exercise has started in Nepal and making laws for the constitution’s execution was the main need of the house, as stated by Dilli Malla, who is the Speaker’s media expert.
Speaker Mahara said that most of the tasks related to the peace process have been completed and the country was now wholly focused on achieving economic prosperity and development.
“I want to give special thanks to the United Nations for the role it shouldered in Nepal’s peace process. Important works related to the peace process are almost completed. Now we have focused on lasting peace and the country’s prosperity,” Malla quoted Mahara as saying in the meeting with the UN official.
Stating that new governments have already been constituted at the local, provincial and federal level through the three tiers of elections, Speaker Mahara said the country would now concentrate on development and prosperity so as to change the people’s living standards within the next five years.
UN Assistant Secretary-General Jenca said that the United Nations was always ready for collaboration for durable peace and development. He expressed happiness over the successful conclusion of the peace process in Nepal and the United Nations having got the opportunity to mediate in this.
