Struggle for Provincial language

Paanchthar, Jan 7, 2018: The ‘provincial language and nomenclature campaign forum’ is underway in Phidim. The campaign has been given in order to exert pressure to make Limbu language as the official language of province no. 1.

At the conference, the forum coordinator and expert at the Language Commission Harischandra Lawati presented a concept paper on ‘Why and how Limbu the official language of province no. 1’ while linguist Dilendra Kurumba presented a basis paper on the nomenclature of province no.1.

After Nepali and Maithili, Limbu would be third language in province no. 1 to be eligible for provincial language, the forum member Kurumba said. Of the 4.5 million population of the province, 331,658 are from the Limbu community.

Related from Taplejung, Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Terhathum, Dhankuta and Paanchthar are taking part in the conference.
