The students with disabilities and pursuing higher studies can now get their academic certificates for free in all affiliate and constituent campuses of the Tribhuvan University. The students will also have their examination fee waived off, according to the Tribhuvan University.
A decision to this end was taken following a request for it by the TU-affiliated Central Campus for the Deaf, Naxal for free examinations for students with disabilities. The TU Executive Council on April 18 had directed the concerned colleges to enroll students with disabilities for free of cost and also provide them with transcripts without charging any fee.
The new provision shall now apply to all 61 TU affiliate and 1,061 member colleges across the country. Earlier, the TU Executive Council had on February 18, 2015 decided to enroll for free all students with disabilities who enroll following the set criteria.
It may be noted that Article 31 of the Constitution guarantees education as a fundamental right while Sub-clause (3) of the same Article ensures free education to the people with disabilities, including in Braille for the visually impaired and through sign language for the deaf citizens.
