2 Nov 2018, Kathmandu

The Timber Corporation of Nepal Ltd has agreed to provide 17 thousand cubic feet timber for the purpose of reconstruction of the historic monument Kasthamandap which was damaged by the 2015 April earthquake.

Kasthamandap Reconstruction Committee chair Rajesh Shakya and corporation’s general manager Raju Laudari signed a memorandum of understanding to that end. The reconstruction of the Kasthamandap which means ‘wood pavilion’ needs specially prepared timber. Generally, timber measuring 10 feet long timber is available in market, but it requires 38 feet long timber for the monument renovation. The committee is working with a target of completing the reconstruction of the heritage of historic and cultural importance by the next two years.

The monument is believed to be built by Laxmi Narsingh Malla, one of the Malla era Kings, in the 12th century from woods of a single tree.
